Educational tours @ Jacob Ballas Children's Garden

The Jacob Ballas Children's Garden at the Bukit Timah Core of the Singapore Botanic Gardens is a specialized garden dedicated to children. Through play and exploration, children will learn about the importance of plants and conservation. Experiences in the garden will stimulate a sense of wonder for the plant world and provide happy memories for our child visitors. This will be the first garden of its kind in Asia.

The Birthday Party
Sara at the Children's Garden
Sara is celebrating her baby brother's birthday party. At the last minute, she realizes she forgot the birthday present! Help Sara search for the perfect gift at the Children's Garden. Along the way, have a fun and memorable experience in this new Garden dedicated to children.

Numbers & Shapes
Follow a trail of numbers and shapes at the Children's Gardens! Children will have the opportunity to discover some interesting characteristics about selected plants with special emphasis on leaves, their numbers and shapes.

Pond Life
Discover pond ecology at a tender age! Tour covers aquatic, semi-aquatic plants and animals. Children will also be introduced to food chains and the ecosystem.

Looking At Plants
A comprehensive study on selected members in the living collection at the Children's Gardens. This tour emphasises functional parts of a plant; namely leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds.

Flowers At Work
Children are encouraged to take a closer look at selected flowering plants to increase their understanding of the forms and functions of flower parts. Thus, unfolding the mysterious role of flowers in pollination.

Talk: Highlights at Jacob Ballas Children's Garden
Join us for a talk on the newly opened Children's Garden! Hear more about plants of many colours, shapes and sizes, textures and feel in our Sensory Garden. Growing here are also plants for drinks, plants for dyes and plants that grow on other plants! Have fun at the fantastic forest which includes a tree house, a pond, a suspension bridge and a cave! Plenty to do here, plenty to see!

A giant prehistoric dinosaur has left its eggs in the Singapore Botanic Gardens! Children will discover some interesting members of the plant kingdom in this guided tour ending in a treasure hunt.

Herbs & Spices are of great importance in culinary recipes and as medicines. Come and explore our Herbs & Spices Garden, hear interesting stories and you will learn more about the uses and many benefits that herbs & spices can provide.

Heritage Tour
Come view a piece of Singapore's heritage, the Singapore Botanic Gardens! Tour the newly redeveloped Gardens in this walk through the Tanglin (Heritage) Core. Highlights of this tour include the heritage trees, timeless sculptures, Saraca Stream Walk and the Library of Botany and Horticulture.

Talk: An introduction to Singapore Botanic Gardens
Join us for a talk on the Singapore Botanic Gardens. You will be introduced to the many attractions and highlights found here, with some as old as the Gardens (about 150 years) itself!

Rainforest Trek
The beauty of the tropical rainforest lies in the fragile and unique ecosystem shaped by its inhabitants: the plants and animals. Come and join us for a unique trekking experience in the Singapore Botanic Gardens Rain Forest!

EcoGarden Tour: Plants & Their Uses

Evolution Garden Tour : Evolution and Adaptation of Plants
Did you know the first plant species appeared on earth about 500million years ago? How did plants evolve and adapt over time? Come and explore the Evolution Garden, and you will even discover endangered plant species and models of extinct plants & real fossils too!

Duration : 1.5 hours

Plant Classification (Designed according to Pri & Sec School's Syllabus)
Through observation of living specimens and investigating exercises, students will study the similarities and differences among different plant groups. The classification systems of plants will also be explored.

Group Size (Education Tours for Schools & Organised Groups)
The group size for each educational tour or hands-on planting session is 20 children(min) to 25 children(max). In the event the number of participants per group is less than the minimum group requirement, please note that the minimum charge for 20 children will still be levied.

Registration & Payment (Education Tours for Schools & Organised Groups)
Registration is on a first come first served basis upon receipt of registration form. To avoid disappointment, please make booking(s) with us at least one month in advance.

Payment can be made by cash or cheque on the actual day of the programme. Cheques should be made payable to "National Parks Board". Please print name of organisation, name of programme, date and time of programme on the reverse side of the cheque.

For organizations, an invoice can be issued and mailed to designated organization after completion of programme. All payments shall be settled promptly. Please note that our credit term is 30 days from the date of issuance of invoice.

A confirmation letter will be sent to you via email, fax or post. If you do not hear from us one week prior to commencement of the programme, please contact us.

Registration & Payment (Scheduled Nature Tours and Workshops)
Registration is on a first come first served basis upon receipt of registration form and payment. Please note that the closing date of registration for each programme is two working days prior to the commencement of the programme.

(For Scheduled Nature Tours)
For nature tours, please make cash payment at the Information Counter located at the Jacob Ballas Children's Garden at least 15 minutes prior to commencement of tours. For safety reason, tours will be cancelled should it rain heavily in the morning of the tours.

(For Scheduled Workshops)
To secure a place, payment should be made prior to commencement of workshop. Advance payment should be made in cheque. Please made cheque payable to "National Parks Board". Please print name of participant, name of programme, date and time of programme on the reverse side of the cheque, and mail it to the mailing address given. Please note that payment is not refundable.

Confirmation Letter (Workshops only)
A confirmation letter will be sent to you via email, fax or post. If you do not hear from us one week prior to commencement of workshop, please contact us. If we receive your registration after the current workshop is filled, your name will automatically be placed on our waiting list.
