Space is often a constraint for high-rise dwellers here, and microgreens and leafy vegetables are most suited for such confined areas. They are quick to grow and a sizeable harvest can be obtained from a small space. Join us in this gardening talk where Jack Yam shares with us his knowledge on how this can be done on your balcony or corridor. You can also hear from him the benefits of bringing together people, such as, your neighbours, to participate in an enjoyable collective effort to grow edibles in your living space. About the speaker: Jack Yam is an avid urban farmer and active member in the online urban farming community. He is also one of the admins of a 48000-member strong urban farming Facebook group called “Urban Farmers (Singapore)". Jack have been featured on various media outlets and maintains his own gardening Facebook page called “The Midnight Gardener”. His tutorials are posted there so that the general public can gain access to the information. Why did he call himself “The Midnight Gardener”? This was coined by his wife as he was only able to attend to his plants in the nights. Both he and his wife work and they have three children. The only time that he could do gardening is when the children are off to bed, the time which he terms – The Golden Hour. For enquiries, please contact us at JurongLakeGardens@nparks.gov.sg
