BioBlitz

Unleash your inner scientist and join us in a race organised as part of the NParks Community in Nature (CIN) initiative, to identify and count as many plants and animals that you can find in a park or nature reserve.

The intensive biodiversity activity, BioBlitz, also provides the opportunity for members of the public to work alongside volunteer scientists.

What you discover will help us understand our local biodiversity better. Who knows, you may even spot a previously undocumented plant or animal species living right in your backyard!

Nationwide BioBlitz cum Habitat Enhancement 2021

Nationwide BioBlitz cum Habitat Enhancement 2021 will be held from 4 to 19 September 2021, from 8am to 12pm in various parks and gardens across Singapore. Between 4 and 19 September, participants may visit parks of their choice on any day to identify and count as many animals as they can find. You may also join a Habitat Enhancement event to plant trees and contribute to enhancing an area in the park for our wildlife. The results of the Nationwide BioBlitz will be crucial in facilitating habitat enhancement works and conservation efforts for Singapore's biodiversity.

Frequently Asked Questions for Nationwide BioBlitz 2021

1. I don’t have any experience with watching and identifying these animals. Can I still participate?

Yes! We will provide training via our online training recordings. The sessions will cover basic identification of the animals in the taxa. On the survey day itself, record all the species you observed of the particular animal group. Photos taken of the unidentified animals may also be submitted to us for identification help.

2. I am an experienced nature love and am comfortable identifying the animals I have chosen to survey. Do I need to attend the online training?

No. The training is non-compulsory, especially for participants who are experienced birdwatchers and budding entomology enthuasiasts!

3. Do I need any special equipment?

The survey was designed to accommodate surveyors without any binoculars or cameras, although you are encouraged to bring one along for ease of identification if you have one. All you need is a datasheet and a pen, or a smart-phone with the SGBioAtlas app.
