Abstract

Weeds detract from the visual appearance of our horticultural landscape and inevitably result in extra maintenance and productivity costs to manage them. Basic knowledge of weed biology is thus important to complement our weed control efforts and enhance productivity in weed management. The Guide to Landscape Weed Management, authored by Dr Chin Siew Wai (CUGE Research), outlines guidelines and principles for an effective weed management program that integrates various weed control methods. The technical guide provides an introduction to the basic biology of weeds, followed by a discussion of various weed control methods. A pictorial chapter on common weeds in Singapore is also included to help readers identify the broad categories of weeds. This guide is jointly produced with CUGE’s Industry Development Branch to impart practical knowledge to landscape professionals. The production is kindly supported by the National Productivity Fund, which aims to raise labour productivity in our landscape industry through education and training.
