Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Perennial herb with a creeping growth form.
Roots Roots are produced at leaf nodes, near the base of the leaf sheaths.
Foliage Hairy, oval leaves (5 cm long, 2.5 cm wide) are olive green on top and reddish, metallic purple below. Leaf margin is reddish purple, entire and hairy. Leaves have leaf sheaths up to 1 cm long that cover most of the stem. Leaves are arranged in 2 files along the stem.
Stems Reddish purple, softly hairy stems are densely covered in long, white hairs.
