An evergreen, monopodial tree. The sexes are separated on different trees (dioecious). This Heritage Tree is a female tree as it was observed to have fruited. Flowers are pollinated by beetles.
A native of the Moluccas and parts of South East Asia, the Nutmeg tree is the source of the nutmeg spice. Nutmeg was a major spice crop in Singapore in the 1840s before disease destroyed plantations in the 1860s.
On 16 April 2013, a flock of about 15 chickens were heard and seen roaming the State-land here. Most of the roosters looked like red jungle fowls (see photos), with two or three roosters looking like mixed breeds.This Heritage Tree had a girth of 1.67m when measured in Year 2007.
