Native Coastal Habitat

banner-01

Coastal forests are home to different shrubs and trees that are mostly found near rocky shores. These plants are able to withstand strong winds and harsh, salty environments. These plants have adapted over time to live under such tough conditions, including higher temperatures than in other inland habitats. Their roots are usually not submerged in water like those trees found in a mangrove setting. Coastal forests provide a source of nutrients for surrounding marine habitats.

The various coastal collections, such as Barringtonia, Terminalia, Clusea, Tristaniopsis, Cerbera, give visitors a good idea of what can be found in a coastal forest area.
