Editor's Note

It has been an exciting first half of the year.

On 16 June, Mr Lee Kuan Yew planted a Rain Tree at the newly opened Holland Village Park – exactly 50 years after he planted a Mempat tree at Farrer Circus, thus launching the campaign to green Singapore. And nearly a month later, we launched our commemorative book and stamps.

This year has panned out to be a fulfilling one for all of us at NParks, and not just because it’s our commemorative year. We have seen White-bellied Sea Eagles nest at Fort Canning Park, the hatching of Oriental Pied Hornbills at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, otter sightings across Singapore outside of our nature reserves (watch otters in action at Pasir Ris beach and East Coast Park - uploaded by nature lovers Tony Goh and Rachel Charis Ng respectively), and our nomination of Singapore Botanic Gardens for UNESCO World Heritage status. We are also encouraged to see many partners joining us to make this year a special one for Singapore.

We are certain the rest of the year will be just as exciting, as we continue with the commemoration of 50 Years of Greening Singapore.
