One Connect and NParks introduce 3G community garden for Choa Chu Kang GRC Residents

29 Mar 2014

3G Community Garden to provide opportunities for residents to bond over nature

Grassroots Adviser to Chua Chu Kang Grassroots Organisations and Minister for Health Mr Gan Kim Yong will announce plans for a 3-generation (3G) community garden that will provide opportunities to bring residents closer to one another and to nature on Saturday, 29 March 2014, 8.30am at Choa Chu Kang Park.

2 The 3G community garden is a joint initiative between One Connect @ Chua Chu Kang Group Representation Constituency (GRC) and National Parks Board (NParks).  “We hope to foster an environment where bonds can be built between residents of all ages with innovative amenities like the new 3G fitness and recreation area, and the upcoming 3G community garden. Such common spaces will close the gap between the young and the old as they play and discover the wonders of nature together,” said Mr Gan.

3 “Community gardening is a wonderful activity that can break down barriers between people. Many new friendships have been  forged through our Community in Bloom programme, and many community gardens have been transformed into vibrant spaces for residents. We hope that the upcoming 3G community garden at Choa Chu Kang Park will become a key gathering point for the community where lives can be shared and beautiful memories created,” said Mr Kenneth Er, Chief Executive Officer, NParks.

4 The event will be held in conjunction with One Connect @ Chua Chu Kang GRC’s inaugural Pets Carnival and the Launch of the Choa Chu Kang Park Extension.  Also gracing the event with their presence, Grassroots Advisers Ms Low Yen Ling, Mr Alvin Yeo and Mr Alex Yam will join over 1,000 private estate residents in the GRC in the pets show, which aims to provide a platform to engage pet lovers residing in private estates and allow them to mingle.  One Connect @ Chua Chu Kang GRC also hopes to achieve one of the objectives of the One Connect Programme – to improve social well-being of private estate residents, and spur formation of Pets Interest Groups (IGs) in NCs throughout the GRC.  Pet owners can look forward to a host of programmes including Pets Contest, Pets Adoption Program and enjoy on-site pets health check & grooming.  Residents can also look forward to programmes such as Mass Workout led by Health Promotion Board , K-pop Fitness, Chinese Dance, put up by their own residents in promoting these interest groups to bring residents together.

5 All Grassroots Advisers and grassroots volunteers will launch the Choa Chu Kang Park Extension by planting 30 native trees —5 Sterculia rubiginosa saplings and 25 Sterculia cordata  saplings— at the opening ceremony.

6 Your journalists and photographers are cordially invited to join in the Chua Chu Kang GRC One Connect Pets Carnival cum Launch of Choa Chu Kang Park Extension on Saturday, 29 March 2014, 8.30am at Choa Chu Kang Park.  Interviews and photo opportunities can be arranged upon request.  Please RSVP with the undersigned by Friday, 28 March 2014.
