360 new allotment gardening plots open for application island-wide

22 Sep 2021

The scheme is part of Singapore’s vision of growing our City in Nature by providing more spaces for gardening in the community.

To cater to the growing interest of avid gardeners, 360 new allotment gardening plots will open for online application on 24 September. These new plots are located in eight parks island-wide, namely Bedok Town Park, Chua Chu Kang Park, Pasir Ris Park, Sengkang Riverside Park, Yishun Park, Jurong Central Park, Kallang Riverside Park and Tiong Bahru Park. With this latest release, there are now more than 2,000 allotment garden plots available across 23 parks and gardens in Singapore. Members of the public are encouraged to apply for the gardening plots nearest to their residence.

Applications for the new plots will open for two weeks from 24 Sep 2021, 10am, to 6 Oct 2021, 10am. Application for the allotment gardening plots will be done online and plots will be allocated through computerised balloting. Each plot comprises a raised planter bed measuring 2.5 m by 1 m and will be leased for up to three years at $57 annually (excluding GST).

The online application form, location maps and more information about allotment gardens island-wide can be found on NParks website (www.nparks.gov.sg/gardening/allotment-gardens). Successful applicants will be notified on the outcome of their application within three months from the closing date.

The Allotment Garden Scheme was launched by NParks in 2016 as part of plans to offer more gardening spaces closer to HDB residential estates. This scheme has grown from 80 plots in a pilot at HortPark to now more than 2000 allotment plots in 23 parks across the island. The scheme is also part of Singapore’s vision of growing our City in Nature by providing more spaces for gardening in the community. City in Nature is a key pillar of the Singapore Green Plan 2030, a whole-of-nation movement to advance Singapore’s national agenda on sustainable development. The Green Plan will enable us to tackle the global challenge of climate change and charts out Singapore’s firm actions to build a sustainable future. In our vision to transform Singapore into a City of Nature, the community plays a key role in the ownership and stewardship for nature. We want to encourage more to garden as a means for community participation and bonding and to bring people closer to nature for health and well-being.
