Staying in ymca orchard, is there a nearest bookstore where I can buy 1001 garden?

Li-San 8/15/2014 1:49:58 PM

Hi Jaslyn, The 1001 Garden Plants in Singapore features plants suitable for a wide variety of gardens, including vertical gardens. From the growth habits described in the book, it may be possible to work out if a plant would be suitable for vertical gardens, e.g. it has trailing leaves or it doesn't grow very tall, etc. What is equally important to note when choosing plants for vertical gardens is to understand the other conditions that will affect plant growth, e.g. the amount of light received where the wall is, the plants' water requirements, etc. At the same time, the choice of plants will depend on the green wall system you are using, whether it utilises a frame with detachable pots, box frames, or pockets, etc. So have fun experimenting.

hello Li-San, I don´t need the whole book, can you please look up whether the book has plants with fragrant flowers which do grow in the complete shade in Singapore? I know that anemones do in principle not need much light, but what is the best?

Li-San 7/31/2013 10:13:12 AM

Hi Lai, You can find copies of the 1001 Garden Plants in Singapore at Books Kinokuniya, Times bookstores as well as the retail outlets in Singapore Botanic Gardens - the Library Shop and the Garden Shop.

Li-San 8/4/2014 9:45:22 AM

Dear Martin, Anemones (scientific name: Anemone species) from the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae) are generally temperate plants that thrive in cool climates. As we do not grow them in Singapore, we’re unable to advise you in detail on anemones. Instead, we recommend you to visit one of our websites that would be useful for plant information - NParks Flora and Fauna Web. It is the online version of the 1001 Garden Plants in Singapore, and has much more information and species inside as it is constantly updated. You may use the ‘Advanced Search’ function and set the search criteria to find plants with fragrance and grows in complete shade in Singapore: After logging into Flora and Fauna Web, click on the Advanced Search link located in the search box, choose from the drop-down menu the categories you want, e.g. 'Landscaping' -> 'Desirable Plant Features' -> ' Fragrant'. Click on the plus button on the right and under 'plant care', select 'light preference' and choose the appropriate light condition. Click 'search' and the results will show up. Hope this helps!
