The Longan (Dimocarpus longan) is a large tree belonging to the same family as the Lychee and Rambutan, which can grow up to 40 m tall. It is best known for its sweet, juicy fruit which, with its semi translucent flesh and black glossy seed, resembles the eye of a dragon, which is how it got its name. The longan fruit is mainly eaten fresh, but can also be canned or dried for easy storage and transportation. Other edible plant parts include its leaves, flowers and seeds.
