The annual Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival is held in conjunction with the Singapore Garden Festival Horticulture Show (SGF Hort Show). To celebrate the Gardens' rich heritage, the Horticultural Competition of the SGF Hort Show will be held at the Plant House Garden, which today is a garden comprising a grass quadrangle surrounded by pergolas with a central water lily pond. The feature is named for the former Plant House that was built here in 1882 to host public flower shows and displays of potted plants and annuals.  

From 9 to 17 October 2021, the Gardens will bring you through a fun-filled journey with activities such as tours, concert and DIY Trail virtually!

Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Museum

Everyday | 9am – 6pm* | Botany Centre

The SBG Heritage Museum features interactive and multimedia exhibits and panels that detail the Gardens’ rich heritage. Historical items that will be displayed include old photographs, artefacts, plant specimens, rare botanical books and botanical paintings that date back to the early 19th century. Oral recordings of Ridley during his 100th birthday will also be integrated into an interactive display. The exhibits in the Museum are supported by CDL through the Garden City Fund, a registered charity and institution of public character established by the National Parks Board.

Learn about how Singapore has been working to mitigate the effects of urbanisation and climate change, and how everyone has a part to play in building a resilient City in Nature.

This exhibition is jointly presented by City Developments Limited, National Parks Board and Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Forest Discovery Centre @ OCBC Arboretum

The Forest Discovery Centre @ OCBC Arboretum showcases the forest ecosystems in Singapore and highlights the importance of conserving them through a series of interpretive and interactive displays. Visitors can enjoy a bird’s eye view of Singapore’s diverse forests and the Gardens’ historical role in conserving them through a photographic installation of forest trees found in various local habitats.

Botanical Art Gallery

Everyday | 9am – 6pm* | Gallop Extension

The Botanical Art Gallery is housed within the second refurbished conserved building. Gallop House No. 7 (Inverturret), which was built in 1906. The gallery highlights the vital role that art plays in the scientific documentation of plants in Singapore and the region, as well as how art can inspire renewed appreciation of the natural world around us.

Botanical Lines, a new exhibition featuring pen and ink illustrations from the Singapore Botanic Gardens archives is also on display at level 1 of the Botanical Art Gallery.

Diversity & Ethnobotany of the Anacardiaceae (Mango Family)

10 May 2021 – 21 November 2022 | 9am – 6pm* | Centre for Ethnobotany

The Anacardiaceae or Mango Family is a group of mainly trees which are found in the tropics, subtropics and temperate zones throughout the world. Its members include several well-known food species such as the cashew, pistachio and mango. The cultivated mango (Mangifera indica) has special significance in Asian culture and cuisine and is regarded as the ‘King of Fruits’ in India. The genus Mangifera has its centre of diversity in Southeast Asia, with about 12 species known to occur in Singapore. The Singapore Botanic Gardens has an impressive collection of Mangifera species on its grounds. Come discover the remarkable uses of the mango and its relatives in this exhibition.

Seed Bank Interpretive Gallery

Everyday | 9am – 6pm* | Singapore Botanic Gardens Seed Bank

The Singapore Botanic Gardens Seed Bank is a conservation, research and education facility in the Singapore Botanic Gardens that focuses on conserving plant species by preserving the seeds and germplasm of plants in Southeast Asia. The Seed Bank has an interpretive gallery that introduces the Seed Bank and explains its importance to plant conservation and research in Singapore and the region, as well as a seed dispersal garden with seed sculptures showing the different seed dispersal mechanisms.

The People's Gallery spaces are located at Botany Centre (near Tanglin Gate), Nassim Visitors Centre and Bukit Timah Gate (Botanic Gardens MRT Exit A).

THE TREE PROJECT is a practice-as-research project that is asking about coexistence, communication across places and living organisms, and the dimensions of timelines that interconnect in the presence of each image.
