Andiroba Carapa guianensis was obtained from tropical America and planted on 28 December 1938. Known as the British Guianan or the Brazilian Mahogany, its timber is durable (like several members of the Meliaceae) and it grows well in Singapore and Malacca. The medicinal and insecticidal value of crab oil, obtained from the seeds, is well known in the countries where the tree grows.
