The Hunt for the Green Boomerang

Our greening journey started in 1963, when our founding Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew had a vision to make Singapore a distinctive and attractive place to live in. Over the decades, we have introduced various species of flowering trees and plants, took charge of efforts to enrich the biodiversity in our environment, and developed quality green spaces with a wide range of amenities.

We could not have done this alone. The support of the community was and still is important to ensure our City in a Garden remains a beautiful place to live in. For example, the Friends of Ubin Network (FUN) was formed in 2014 and comprises young people, residents, volunteers, researchers and members from heritage and nature communities. Some of them have banded together to develop a code of conduct for environmentally and socially responsible behaviour on Pulau Ubin, known as “The Ubin Way”. To find out more, visit www.nparks.gov.sg/ubin.

A sequel to the award-winning Secrets of the Swamp, The Hunt for the Green Boomerang highlights the fascinating flora, fauna and heritage sites one can find on Pulau Ubin, and offers readers a glimpse of village life. Targeted at children from 10-14 years old, this riveting adventure aims to instil in them an appreciation of our natural environment and biodiversity, and remind them to do their part in shaping our City in a Garden – essential values embraced by The Ubin Project.

The Hunt for the Green Boomerang is available at $16 from the shops at Singapore Botanic Gardens (including the online shop www.botanicgardensshop.sg) from 4 June, and the Ubin-HSBC Volunteer Hub on Pulau Ubin and all major bookstores from mid June.
