Open Call for Community Photography Exhibition on the Birds of the Singapore Botanic Gardens

Open Call period: 15 January – 29 February 2024

The Singapore Botanic Gardens is not only home to thousands of plants and trees but also to several species of fauna. In fact, one of the important off-shoots of the world-class botanical and horticultural work of the Gardens is habitat enhancement and management for its resident wildlife, which makes the Gardens a biodiversity hotspot in Singapore.

In particular, the Gardens is an important habitat for birds, both native and migratory, and thus a much sought after location for avian photography by people from all walks of life – including professional photographers, hobbyists, students and scientists.

Photographs of birds, in addition to their aesthetic value, are very important in documenting and supporting the conservation of Singapore’s avian diversity. The participation of a diverse range of communities, make bird photography at the Singapore Botanic Gardens one of the popular citizen science initiatives in Singapore today.

The Open Call for a Community Photography Exhibition on the Birds of the Singapore Botanic Gardens invites residents of Singapore to submit their photographs of birds seen or recorded in the Singapore Botanic Gardens in the following sub-themes –

  • Birds in Action,
  • Migratory Birds,
  • Rare Birds,
  • Feeding Birds, and
  • Nesting Birds.

Shortlisted photographs will be displayed in a photography exhibition at the CDL Green Gallery at the Singapore Botanic Gardens to be held later in the year.
