About the Exhibition

Discover how Singapore's green heart has touched countless lives across generations, in this exhibition celebrating the Gardens' 10th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Through personal stories, cherished memories, and heartfelt wishes, experience how this beloved space has grown beyond its historic roots to become a living, breathing part of our shared heritage.

Visitors can also look forward to interactive displays that share about the Gardens' groundbreaking research and conservation work. These efforts aim to strengthen the connection between plants and people, ensuring the Gardens’ continued relevance and purpose for Singapore.

Gathering Roots - A Multi-sensory Public Art Installation

Gathering Roots is conceived as an extension of the exhibition at the CDL Green Gallery out into the Gardens; straight to the visitors.

Conceptualised by Clare Chong and Moira Loh, and created with PLAY! collaborators, this work is rooted in a simple yet profound intention: to listen. Through digital and on-site community engagement, spread over six weeks from 4 April - 18 May 2025, they gathered stories, reflections, and dreams from the public, across age, language, and culture, asking: ‘What do the Gardens mean to you?’

The result is a multi-sensory public art installation that reflects the voices of the people, weaving them into sculptural forms, moving images, and sound. Each element of the exhibition exists in symbiosis, just as plants, people, and memory do.

Gathering Roots is part of Arts@SBG, National Arts Council (NAC) Arts & Culture Nodes program.
