CUGE ARB 3014 Tree Inspection - Advanced

INTRODUCTION

This program is a sequel to the Basic Tree Inspection (Level 1) and NParks’ Tree Inspection OJT module. In this workshop, participants will practice evaluating the defects that they observed and think critically on their justification for proposed mitigating measures. Usage of equipment, such as resistograph and tomograph to complement tree assessment will be taught.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Learn the importance of Root Collar Excavation
  • Think critically about the defects observed
  • Understand the factors to look out for that might lead defect to result in failure
  • Learn to analyze how and why certain defect leads to failures
  • Learn the differences in analyzing failure potential for open and closed cavities
  • Understand when and how an equipment is utilized in Visual Tree Assessment (VTA)
  • Learn to justify proposed mitigating measures

·           Usage of basic tools for tree assessment   below ground

·           Tree inspection – has all the information   been gathered?

Day   1, PM

·           Using of equipment to complement VTA

·           Analysis of opened/closed cavities in tree   trunks

Day   2, whole day

·           Evaluation of defects

o      Where is failure likely to occur?

o      What is the likelihood of failure?

o      Proposed mitigating measures and the logic   for it


METHODOLOGY
Lecture with discussion and practical session.

PRE-REQUISITES
Participants must have prior knowledge on identification of tree defects and shall have attended either one of the following programs:
  • Tree Inspection OJT
  • Tree Inspection (Level 1) [previously known as Basic Tree Inspection (Level 1)]

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

  • Arborists
  • Personnel who has to carry out tree inspection

ABOUT THE TRAINER

Mr Abdul Hamid is currently Director in Streetscape Division, National Parks Board. He is an ISA Certified Arborist, Municipal Specialist and has 30 years of experience in conducting tree assessments.

1 Please note that your placement in the course/programme will only be confirmed upon receipt of duly completed online application forms and full payment of required course fees.
2 There shall be no unilateral cancellation or withdrawal from the course/programme once confirmation notice from CUGE confirming your registration for the course/programme is issued. There shall be no refund of course fees made by National Parks Board for any such cancellation, withdrawal or non-attendance of the course/programme.
However, subject to CUGE’s consent, applicants who are unable to attend a course/programme with valid reasons may request to defer their participation to a course scheduled for a later date or transfer their placement to a replacement participant nominated by the applicant. Such requests must be made to CUGE either by phone, email or in writing at least three working days before the commencement of the scheduled course/programme. Any request made to CUGE less than three working days before the commencement of the scheduled course/programme will not be entertained except at CUGE’s sole discretion.
3 National Parks Board reserves the right to change the details of, cancel or reschedule any programme conducted by CUGE including any change to the Trainers/Assessors, venue and the course fees if necessary or warranted by circumstances beyond our control by prior notice to you at the address / email stated in the application form.
