Description

Description Large size. Body almost completely naked except for scattered short hairs on the feet and a cluster of long sharp claws. Ears well developed, separate.

Ecology, Habitat & Location

Ecological Notes This is a large, nocturnal, insectivorous bat feeds in open areas over streams, clearings, and the forest canopy. It is known to roost in large caves, hollow trees, and abandoned buildings.

Distribution Has been seen in flight over the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, but no recent roost in Singapore has been identified. The last known roost was in a derelict house near Braddell Road, in 1979. Distributed in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo, Java and the Philippines.
