| Description | Small size with short tail. Males are overall green, patch on breast and rump crimson, patch on back orange, small patch on crown blue. Females are almost like males but lack both crimson patch on breast and blue crown. |
Ecology, Habitat & Location
| Ecological Notes | A forest nectarivore of the canopy and sub-canopy levels. Assessment of its status, distribution and population has been made complicated by the popularity of this species as a cage bird, imported from neighbouring countries. The true native population is believed to be confied to the central forests where it is scare but regular in occurrence. A little known species usually seen feeding on flowers in the forest canopy or flying over. Nesting has not been recorded in Singapore. |

| Distribution | Found throughout the central forests and Botanic Gardens. Vagrants, wanderers or escapees have been found in Sembawang, Sungei Buloh, Yishun, Alexandra Hospital, St. John’s Island and Pulau Ubin. This species occurs in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo. |
