Description

Description Small fish with patchy pattern of dark and light brown. Skin rough and covered with minute spiny growths. Four pairs of relatively short, whitish barbels.

Ecology, Habitat & Location

Ecological Notes Fast-flowing, well shaded swamp-forest streams with acidic waters and dense growths of submerged vegetation. This secretive, benthic species feeds on minute invertebrates and uses its dexterous and strong pelvic fins to move about.

Distribution Known only from the faster flowing streams in a small area of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Distributed in the extreme south of the Malay Peninsula and Pulau Bintan (Indonesia).
