Name
Ecology, Habitat & Location
Ecological Notes | They require a humid forest environment and are very sensitive to forest disturbance and habitat destruction. |
---|---|
Habitats | Forest, Terrestrial |
Distribution | From Japan and China through Cambodia and Peninsular Malaysia to Sumatra. This small species is very localised in Singapore and occurs in only one small patch of forest in Mandai. The reason for this is not obvious as its food plants are found all over the island. |
Nature Reserves | Central Catchment Nature Reserve |
Conservation
Trends & Threats | Habitat loss is the most important threat. |
---|---|
Scientific Interest & Potential Value | This small species is parthnogenetic and males are only found in one small area near Khao Yai in Thailand. Elsewhere in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore only females exist. |
Conservation Notes | The most useful conservation measure available for these insects is to increase public awareness of these creatures. As these are very seldom seen in the wild, it may be possible only through insect observatories and cultures. |
