Description | Abdomens of damselflies from this family are stout and shorter than their wings. Face protruding, giving it a snout-like appearance. Males smaller than females, thorax marked with bright yellow and black, abdomen bright red. Females black, thorax and abdomen marked yellowish or greyish olive. |
Ecology, Habitat & Location
Ecological Notes | Found in slow brooks and quiet parts of quick-flowing, clear streams with sandy or silty substrate, often perched on semi-submerged logs or floating leaves. Males establish territories from 1.5 to 3 metres in diameter. Females oviposit on floating grass blades or semi-submerged twigs in streams, sometimes crawling along the vegetative tissue as they oviposit. |
