Description
Description | The adult has overall red brown plumage with a long neck and dark, broad wings with chestnut lesser and median upperwing coverts, rich chestnut flanks with distinct large black and white markings and white outer uppertail-coverts. A pronounced blackish line runs down the centre of its nape and hindneck. The juvenile has overall duller plumage with paler belly and less distinct plumage pattern. Appearance is similar to the Lesser Whistling duck. |

Ecology, Habitat & Location
Ecological Notes | Nests in well-lined ground depressions among vegetation and occasionally in tree holes, with 6-15 cream coloured eggs. This is a gregarious bird that is often found in large flocks. |
