Description | Head distinct. Body mostly grey and compressed, wih distinctive transverse white and black spots together on single scales. A white, yellow, or reddish broad collar may be present around the neck. Whitish ventral surface, which may be spotted with grey or black. Smooth scales, vertebrals not enlarged. |

Ecological Notes | Nocturnal, terrestrial, but occasionally climbs on vegetation. Feeds on snails and slugs. Apparently non-venomous. |

Distribution | In Singapore, found in open scrubland of Mandai, Khatib Bongsu, Lim Chu Kang, and Sungei Buloh. Occurs from southern China through Indochina and to the northern Malay Peninsula. Nature Reserves: Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. Nature Areas: Mandai, Khatib Bongsu, and Lim Chu Kang. Introduced to Singapore, where it was first recorded in 2000. Native to southern China, Indochina and the northern parts of the Malay Peninsula. |
