| Description | Body slender; lower jaw considerably longer than, and protruding beyond upper jaw, with a fleshy red growth that curves downwards from the tip of its beak. Dorsal fin with long base, its origin in front of anal fin origin. |

| Ecological Notes | Gives birth to live young, and males have an anal fin that is modified, called an aphrodium, which assists in fertilizing the female. Can usually be found at the surface of the water, feeding on insects. |
