Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form An aquatic herb, it can grow up to 3m tall. 
Foliage The 15 to 40cm  long leaves are triangular in shape with a cordate leaf base. 
Stems The caudex can grow up to 1 to 3m high and is thicker at the base, supported by prop roots. The internodes are covered with spines. 
Flowers The flowers are borne on a spadix. The flower spathe is pale green on the outer surface while white within.  
Fruit The fruit is in the form of subglobose berries.
