Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form It is a tree, up to 30 m tall.
Foliage Leaves are compound and each comprises of 3 – 4 pairs of leaflets.
Flowers Inflorescence occurs at the axillary, and comprises of small fragrant white flowers. Flower has 4 calyx lobes and 10 free stamens.
Fruit Fruit pod is elliptical, smooth and leathery. Each pod contains about 1 – 2 seeds.
Ethnobotanical Uses Cultural / Religious: Heritage Tree: There is currently one individual of Copaifera officinalis  listed as Heritage Tree in Singapore. To find out more about this tree, please visit the Heritage Tree Register.
Others: It produces a clear resin which slowly turn pale yellow when in contact with air. Resin is used for medicine and as a scenting agent to make soaps.
