Description and Ethnobotany
| Growth Form | Terrestrial orchid growing up to about 0.2-0.3 m tall. |

| Foliage | Light green, pleated leaves are elliptic with wavy leaf margins (5-12 cm long, 4-6.3 cm wide). |
| Flowers | Flowers are greenish white with narrow, linear petals. The lip is approximately rectangular with a fringed, bi-lobed tip and 2 bright purplish, longitudinal streaks. The inflorescence is 18-25 cm long and its stalk (peduncle) is 7 cm long. The flowers are widely spaced apart along the stalk. |
| Fruit | Fruits are cylindrical pods (0.6-0.7 cm long) with small warts along the lines where it breaks open. |
| Habitat | Often found in lowland freshwater swamps, but also occurs in montane habitats. |
| Etymology | Greek liparoj, shining, referring to the shiny leaf texture. Latin barbata, with tufts of hair, or with a beard like a philosopher, referring to the toothed margins which look like hairs at the tip of the lip. |
