Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Herbaceous plant with erect growth habit.
Foliage Leaves are ovate to lanceolate with toothed leaf margins. Leaf underside is hairy. Opposite leaves occur in decussate leaf arrangement with adjacent leaf pair perpendicular to one another.
Stems Stems are slightly hairy and distinctly ribbed.
Flowers  Tiny, white flowers are tubular and 2-lipped (3 - 4 mm wide). The button-shaped inflorescence is composed of many flowers and  occurs singly in the leaf axil. Flowers on the outer edge of the inflorescence open first with only a few flowers open at a time.
Fruit Fruits are dark brown, egg-shaped nutlets (1 mm long, 0.3 - 0.4 mm wide).
