Description and Ethnobotany

Foliage Leaves to 30cm long by 12(15)cm wide, luminous dark green above, mid rib pale green.  
Flowers Inflorescence to 30cm long. Bracts distichous, imbricate, dull orange red with pale yellowish green tinge along the basal portion. Flowers white - pinkish white tinged with cream.
Cultivation This is sold under the cultivar names of Calathea crotalifera 'Red'  or 'Red Rattle'. Some nurseries in the trade have also sold this under the mistaken identity of Calathea metallica 'Frosty'.
