Description and Ethnobotany

Foliage There are two types of leaves namely, the submersed and emergent leaves. The submersed leaves are light green in colour and have more lobes, giving it a finer and more feathery look. The emergent leaves which grow above the water surface are darker green in colour with less lobes. The leaves are arranged in whorls on the stem.   
Flowers The flowers are inconspicuous and white, are located in the leaf axils of the emergent leaves.
Habitat Found in freshwater lakes, ponds and canals in shallow water, the plant tends to colonize water bodies with slow-moving of still water.
