Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A monotypic orchid. 
Stems The single stem has indefinite growth. 
Flowers The flowers emit a sweet syrupy scent that is usually strongest when the flowers first bloom and have strong dark brown tessellations on the petals and sepals except for the lip which is mauve in colour.  
Taxonomy This Singapore hybrid is named after Mimi Lim Palmer, the granddaughter of Dr. Lim Boon Keng. The hybrid is a cross between Vanda Afterglow and Vanda tessellata. It was registered by Gem Nursery in 1963, previously known as Papilionanda Mimi Palmer.
Ethnobotanical Uses Others: A popular garden plant, the flowers of this hybrid represent the breakthrough in Vanda breeding where the petals and sepals are covered in strong tessellations.
