Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Rhizomatous herb to 100cm tall. 
Foliage Leaves mid green,  petioles 5-20cm in length, those of lower leaves usually longer than those of the upper leaves. Leaf blades elliptic, to 45cm long by 14cm wide. 
Flowers Inflorescence to 50cm tall, with spirally arranged bracts. Bracts dimorphic, lower bracts bright green, each bract subtending 1-2 flowers. Upper bracts sterile, white, pink or flushed with pink towards the tips. Flowers small, corolla lobes and lip yellow.
