| Stems | The large culms may be the largest in the world (25-35 m tall, 15-30 cm wide). Dull green to dark bluish green culms have 2-2.5 cm thick walls and internodes that are spaced 35-45 cm apart. Young culms are covered in a white waxy coating which disappears as they mature. |

| Habitat | In the wild, it is found on slopes or humid tropical highlands at altitudes up to 1,200 m. |
