Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A small epiphyte, it has a clumping growth form.
Foliage The narrowly elliptical leaves are erect and are coriaceous.
Flowers The tubular flowers are held on single-flowered inflorescences. The sepals are orange and are glabrous on the outer surface, the inner surface is pubescent. The dorsal sepal is fused with the lateral sepals to form a tube. The free portions of the sepals are rounded and abruptly contracted into tails. The petals are orange, the flower lip is orange.
Cultivation The plant is best grown small pots, with water retentive growing media such as sphagnum moss as the roots need to be kept moist at all times. Water with low salt content is best used.

Planting Remarks This species is intermediate - cool growing, and prefers cool & moist conditions. In Singapore, this species can be grown, but only if the plant is kept in a fully air-conditioned growing area. Care must be taken to provide sufficient humidity as it will not do well if it is fully exposed to the drying effects of the air conditioning.
