Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A tree up to 30 m tall.
Foliage Leaves are leathery, elliptic to ovate, measuring 8-24 cm long and 4-11 cm wide. Midribs are depressed.
Flowers Flowers are small, up to 1 cm in diameter.
Fruit Fruits are about 5 cm in diameter.
Etymology Diospyros is derived from two Greek words, dios (divine) and pyros (wheat), meaning divine wheat (fruit).
