Description | Deep orange above with narrow black outer borders and black wing spots. Underneath, the wings are salmon orange in the male and pale tawny yellow in the female. The black thorax and black hindwing border are spotted white. The forewing coloration becomes paler and turns whitish towards the apex and the termen. |
Ecology, Habitat & Location
Ecological Notes | Ecology: Usually seen in gardens, parks, roadsides, bushland and coastal scrub. It flies sluggishly in a fluttering manner at moderate speed and the adults have the habit of visiting flowers for nectar. Host plants are mostly from the Passion fruit family. Caterpillars feed on the leaves, young shoots, tendrils and outer surface of young stems of the host plant, while adults feed on nectar. |
