Description

Description Hind legs long and slender, tips of fingers and toes not flattened into disks. Skin rough and uniformly brown over back. A black mask covers most of the tympanum (but this mask is not distinct on individuals from Pulau Tekong), abdomen yellow.

Ecology, Habitat & Location

Ecological Notes Inhabits freshwater swamp forest where it is nocturnal and usually seen on the banks of small streams. Does not seem to call. Known to eat ants and spiders. Larval stages not known.

Distribution Known from a single locality in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, and on Pulau Tekong. Distributed in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo.

Trends & Threats Habitat degradation and loss.
Scientific Interest & Potential Value Being an exclusive swamp-dweller, its presence is an excellent indicator of the health of the habitat. Its biology is poorly known.
Conservation Notes Its habitat in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve is protected, but the population on Pulau Tekong would benefit from a conservation plan.
