Description

Size 38 cm
Description In flight, contrast visible between yellow-brown wing-coverts, dark-brown back and black flight-feathers. Male: black crown; yellow-brown body. Female: crown reddish-brown with black stripe along it; brown streaks on underparts.

Ecology, Habitat & Location

Habitats Urban, Grassland, Pond
Distribution Found within Asia. Bird breeds in East and Southeast Asia winters in south China, Southeast Asia and New Guinea. Common winter visitor and passage migrant. Breeding records have been for Singapore. However, most often present at Sungei Buloh between Nov till May with peaks in Nov and Dec and again in late Mar and Apr. Can be found in habitats like marshes, grasslands, ponds and reservoirs.
