Ecology, Habitat & Location

Habitats Forest, Parks & Gardens
Distribution Breeds in India, temperate zone East Asia south to Hainan; For South-east Asia, breeds continental SE Asia, except Peninsular Malaysia. The owl is rare but widespread throughout Singapore around Nov. May be more common than previously thought. Known only through mist netting monitoring work. From Nov to Feb. Peak numbers in Nov. Appears to exhibit site fidelity with a retrap in Feb of an individual ringed in Nov 51 months earlier. Some fattening was noted in the retrap suggesting that Sungei Buloh was its ultimate wintering home.
