Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Herbaceous plant up to 5 m tall.
Foliage The variegated leaves are large and very ornamental. Variegation appears as white and light green sectors on the leaf blade.  
Stems The stem is a pseudostem, formed by tightly packed leaf sheathes.
Flowers The inflorescence hangs down vertically. Flowers are yellow with purple bracts.
Fruit The fruits are also variegated.
Cultivation Plants do well in a sheltered location with consist moist but well-drained, fertile soils. Need protection from winds. The plant can be used as focal plants in the garden, and also suitable for container-growing. Give ample spacing between plants so that leaves have space to spread out gracefully. Propagation can be done by dividing suckers.
