Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form A terrestrial herb that can grow up to 20 cm tall.
Foliage The leaves are alternately arranged, ovate-lanceolate and plicate.
Flowers The flowers are borne on a terminal raceme and can grow up to 40 cm tall, the scape and bracts are covered with hairs. The flowers are yellow and do not open fully, the sepals and petals are hairy on the outer surface, the flower lip is pale yellow and has a raised midrib on the upper surface. The flower has 1 stigma and 3 anthers. Unlike most orchids, plants of this genus Neuwiedia veratifolia have 3 fertile stamens instead of 1.
Fruit The fruit is in the form of a 3-angled dry capsule, 1.2 cm long and 7 mm thick.
