Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Shrub or small tree with an erect growth habit, growing up to 6 m tall.
Foliage Smooth or softly hairy leaves are oblanceolate to obovate or elliptic to oblong (7-25 cm long, 3-8.5 cm wide). Petiole is 3-8 mm long and covered in bristly hairs.
Flowers White, star-shaped flowers have a pinkish, knob-like structure in the middle formed by the stamens and stigma. The flowers occur in large clusters of about 15-20 flowers.
Fruit Small fruits (1-1.2 cm long, 0.7-1 cm wide) contain smooth or slightly ridged pits known as pyrenes (0.5-0.6 cm long, 0.5-0.6 cm wide).
