Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Large shrub with erect growth form.
Foliage Broadly ovate leaves are light and dark green in the centre with yellow or cream leaf margin. Young leaves have a yellowish green margin which becomes creamy white at maturity.
Flowers Large, tubular flowers are composed of an orange, cylindrical floral tube and about 10 white, bean-shaped lobes. The floral tube is orange both inside and outside, forming an orange eye.
Etymology Genus name Nyctanthes comes from the Greek word "nukto-anqoj", which means night-flower. Species namearbor-tristis means melancholy or sorrowful tree.
