Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form It is an aquatic herbaceous plant, reaching up to 10 - 40 cm tall. 
Foliage The leaves are arranged alternately and are lanceolate to narrow ovoid in shape with a cordate base and an acute apex. 
Flowers The inflorescence is a spadix. The flower spathe is sulphur yellow and slightly twisted at the apex.
Habitat It can be found in slow-moving rivers and streams in lowland forests. It has been naturalised in Singapore, particularly in Windsor Nature Park.
Cultivation It is best grown under shade and can be grown in water temperatures between 18 to 28°C. 
Etymology The genus Cryptocoryne refers to the spathe encloses the spadix.
