Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form An aquatic herb, it grows in stands and can grow up to 10 to 40cm tall. 
Foliage The leaves are arranged alternately and are lanceolate to narrow ovoid in shape with a cordate base and an acute apex. 
Flowers The flowers are in the form of a spadix. The flower spathe is sulphur yellow and slightly twisted at the apex.
Habitat Slow-moving rivers and streams in lowland forests. 
Cultivation It is best grown under shade and can be grown in water temperatures between 18 to 28°C. 
Etymology The genus ‘Cryptocoryne’ refers to the spathe encloses the spadix.
