Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Small to medium-sized shrub with a round, dense crown.
Foliage Leaves are narrow and elliptic (1-5 cm long, 0.5-1 cm wide). Leaf margin is lined with fine teeth.
Flowers Sweetly scented, bright yellow flowers (2 cm wide) are composed of 5 round, widely spread petals and numerous yellow stamens.
Fruit Pea-like fruits are initially green, turning to black at maturity. Each flower produces 1-5 fruits which are attached to the calyx (outermost layer of a flower). The calyx becomes bright red and swollen after the petals drop.
