Ecology, Habitat & Location

Ecological Notes An active predatory sea-star living subtidally on and in soft sediments.
Habitats Marine
Distribution Very uncommon and apparently restricted to the Pulau Ubin and Pulau Tekong area.
Nature Areas Pulau Tekong, Pulau Ubin

Conservation

Trends & Threats Loss of habitat due to land reclamation. Since the publication of the first Singapore Red Data Book (Ng & Wee, 1994) populations have probably further declined as a result of recent, extensive reclamation of seabed habitat at Pulau Tekong.
Scientific Interest & Potential Value Important as a component of Singapore's marine invertebrate 'megafaunal' biodiversity.
Conservation Notes Formerly found near the Singapore mainland, prior to reclamation in the latter part of the 20th century, but now known from only one area (Ubin/Tekong) and in low numbers. Conservation in this disturbed region is problematic.

Status

Singapore Red Data Book Status Endangered (EN) [2008], Endangered (E) [1994]
