Description

Size 22 cm
Description Black bill longer than Dunlin’s somewhat down-curved; legs black. Breeding: head, neck and almost underparts are very conspicuous vinous-red. Non-breeding: upperparts uniform grey-brown with pale fringes on wing-coverts.

Ecology, Habitat & Location

Habitats Mudflats, Sandy Shore
Distribution Breeds in high arctic north Siberia from Yamal Peninsula to North Chukotskiy Peninsula. The East Asian-Australasian population winters in Southeast Asia and Australia, while the rest winters in Africa, Middle East and South Asia. Common winter visitor and passage migrant.
