| Etymology | The genus Anubias is derived from Anubis, the Egyptian God of the afterlife, possibly alluding to the shady locations where many Anubias species naturally grows. The specific epithet barteri is named in honour of Charles Barter, a British plant collector and botanist who gathered specimens in West Africa during the 19th Century. |
